Formatting a computer involves deleting all the data present
on the computer’s hard drive, and then reinstalling the operating system to
restore the computer to factory defaults. If your computer is malfunctioning,
or you want to sell it, or doing away with it, this can be useful.
Step 1
Before you format your computer, you need to back up your
data. Formating your computer hard drive will lead to you losing your data. The
programs previously on it are unable to be backed up. You can use external storage
devices to store your data like DVDs, CDs etc.
Step 2
Prepare your BIOS to boot from CD. Start your computer and
enter the setup screen after the manufacturer’s logo appears. The key to
performing this will be displayed, and it depends on the manufacturer of your
computer. The most common keys are F2, F10, F12 and Del. When in the BIOS menu,
choose the Boot menu. Select the order of devices so that your computer boots
from CD before booting from the hard drive. Save the change you’ve done and
exit. Your computer will restart. If booting from a flash drive, then you have
to select the BIOS to boot from the removable storage.
Step 3
You will see a message stating, “Press any key to boot from
CD…” Press any key, and the setup process for Windows 10 will launch.
Step 4
Watch the windows files load, later after completion. The
Windows 10 logo will appear. Your computer will take you through steps to set
it up as per your preferences, i.e. time, language etc. After those steps, now
click ‘Install Now.’
Step 7
The terms and conditions will be displayed, then accept the
terms of your operating system, to proceed with your setup.
Step 8
A window will pop up for you to select the partition to
install windows. Click “Drive Options” to delete and create partitions. Select
the partition to use and delete the data on it.
Step 9
Wait while windows install, this might take some time
depending on your computer’s performance. After its done, you’ll be prompted to
set up your computer, enter the user name and computer name. Then later to
enter your Windows 10 product key to activate your windows. Finally, explore
your desktop after you have successfully logged in.
